Women in Diplomacy

On 9 March 2017, the Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade (IFAT) was honored to host its first-ever “Women in Diplomacy” event. On the occasion of the recent International Women’s Day, the event featured a roundtable discussion with H.E. Ms Marie Antoinette Sedin, Ambassador of Palestine; H.E. Ms Verónica Chahin Sarah, Ambassador of the Republic of Chile; as well as H.E. Ms Maria Fe Pangilinan, Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines. The discussion was moderated by Ms Diána Szőke, senior analyst at IFAT.

The threefold significance of Ukraine for Hungarian foreign policy

The head of IFAT participated in two panels with German, Ukrainian, Austrian, Polish and Canadian experts and diplomats, addressing the question of „the German-Russian axis as a short and long-term strategy”, as well as that of „the strategic implications of a strong or weak Ukraine for Europe”. Immigration, Security, the Southern neighborhood and Brexit: A view of the Maltese Presidency of the Council of the European Union

On the 6th of February 2017, the Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade hosted a lecture by Dr. Joseph Licari, former Ambassador of Malta to Brussels, Strasbourg and Paris, under the title “Immigration, Security, the Southern neighborhood and Brexit: A view of the Maltese Presidency of the Council of the European Union”. Ambassador Licari’s speech was followed by a roundtable discussion featuring Amb. Károly Grúber, Head of Department for Common Foreign and Security Policy from the Hungarian Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Trade; dr. István Balogh, Head of Department for Security Policy and Non-Proliferation from the Hungarian Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Trade; and Máté Szalai, Research Fellow of the Institute. The roundtable discussion was moderated by Anna Fülöp, Research Fellow of the Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Stronger together – Mapping a new path for the European Union. Opening Session – Brexit was harsh. But is the wake-up call even harsher?

On 22nd November the Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade, in co-operation with the State Secretariat for European Union Affairs of the Prime Minister’s Office organized the first panel discussion of the programme series entitled “Stronger together? Mapping a new path for the European Union” about the possible future of the European Union after Brexit. At the opening event entitled “Brexit was harsh – but is the wake-up call even harsher?” H. E. Mr. Iain Lindsay, Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Hungary, H. E. Mr. Rastislav Káčer, Ambassa-dor of the Slovak Republic to Hungary, representing the Rotating Presidency of the Europe-an Council and H. E. Mr. Szabolcs Takács, Minister of State for European Affairs, Prime Minister’s Office were among the invited guests. The event was moderated by Amb. Márton Schőberl, Director-General of the Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The assessment of the American presidential election results - roundtable discussion at IFAT
